Lasagna Al Fresco

May 7, 2008 by Alison

This photo is not an ad for Ronzoni pasta. Rather, it’s a memento of a beautiful afternoon with a friend. It was an absolutely gorgeous Spring Monday when Debbie and I met for our lasagna assembly date. Having made our tomato sauce together the week before, we were all set to get to work — except, with such nice weather, neither of us wanted to be inside. Somehow, as we were prepping our bowls of mozzarella cheese, sauce, basil and meat, it dawned on us that we could do the assembling outdoors on the patio. So, we loaded everything onto trays and set ourselves up with a lovely outdoor work station. Our sons ran around the yard with water guns, our daughters picked flowers from the yard and we layered our dishes with cheese, sauce and meat. It was a unique setting for our task, and if we hadn’t been interrupted by more than a few pesky flies, it may just have been perfect.

And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
