Teach Your Friends Well

June 4, 2008 by Alison

Sometimes cooking with a friend can be selfless. Yesterday was one of those days. I got together with my friend Christina in order to demonstrate the simplicity of making homemade granola. You see, her family loves the Bare Naked brand and she can’t seem to buy enough of it! That being said, the dollars are adding up. Knowing how crazy I am about making granola at home, she thought she’d try it with me.

Before I arrived (with oats, dried cherries and my toddler in hand), she stir fried a fresh batch of Asian noodles for lunch. After taking a few minutes to mix our oats, we sat and ate a delicious meal while the sweet aroma of honey almond granola filled the kitchen. As we crumbled up the oats and added our dried fruit, I packed away about three quarters of it for her family and a bit for mine. In return, she sent me home with a generous container of Asian noodles for my kids’ dinner that night (which they devoured!) and more than a dozen pork dumplings for a future dinner.

I just love this blog and all the inspiration you ladies have going on. Thanks so much for the granola idea. I am moving and I have someone to thank so I just may have to have her and her kids over for a mommy/kid playdate…

    Thanks again.

About Alison J. Bermack

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
