Thoughts from Far Away

January 5, 2009 by Alison

An empty container, a kind gesture, and thoughts from a friend. . .

While visiting relatives in England, my friend noticed an empty container in her father-in-law’s cupboard. She thoughtfully decided to make homemade granola to fill it with. While doing so, she thought of me, her granola making buddy.

Not only did my friend have the experience of missing me while making granola in a far away place, but she actually took the time to e-mail me, sharing this “Cooking With Friends Moment.”

With friends traveling far and away during the holidays, it can get pretty lonely in the kitchen. I have many moments — when making a banana bread or rolling some dough for pizza — when I wish I were with a friend instead of alone.

It’s nice to know that my sentiments are shared.
