Busy Bees

December 15, 2009 by Alison

I’ve been cooking (and baking) up a storm with most of my friends during the last several weeks. We’ve been baking for upcoming cookie exchanges, making latkes for Hanukah, making biscotti, scones, empanadas . . . you name it! And it’s all happening in between shopping excursions, holiday social affairs and school events. We’ve all been so busy that at last week’s appetizer swap (thank you Alma) we almost threw the food at each other instead of having a leisurely exchange.

It’s all good though.

We were so grateful to receive six dozen deliciously homemade appetizers to heat up for company throughout the hectic holidays. If we didn’t have our social cooking, I doubt we’d see our friends much at all!
So, as you’re running around, grabbing last minute gifts and gearing up for the holidays, think about what you can make with your friends. Whether it’s a gift for a teacher or cookies for the holidays, carving out any amount of time with friends in this way will give you not just food, but time with your friends.

Hi Alison and thanks for organizing the swap! I am psyched to use all of those varied apps for my family festivities. I, myself, just made 36 jars of butterscotch sauce and hot fudge for teachers gifts (and bus driver gifts, crossing guard gifts, etc.) and feel so relieved to have done so in advance! keep up the good work!

My mom made these cookies and they melt in your mouth the way ice cream does in the summer.
    They are DELICIOUS!

About Alison J. Bermack

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
