Blogging It Forward to Fight Hunger

January 28, 2010 by evelyn

Squint just the right way and you’ll see your friends Alison and Shannon on the back of this Honey Nut Cheerios box. But, this really isn’t about us. In August, many of you helped support the ShopRite Partners in Caring and General Mills campaign “Blog it Forward to Fight Hunger.”

The campaign was a success and 3,000 boxes of cheerios were donated to people in need. Now, special edition boxes have been created to thank the bloggers and their readers who helped out. If you live in MD, NJ, NY, DE, PA or CT, you can find them in your local ShopRite store this week.

Thank you, thank you for helping. Especially with the earthquake in Haiti, Alison and I have been talking and thinking a lot about how lucky many of us are, and how we can do more to help others.

Following on the last campaign, ShopRite is now trying to help those who need food through “Expressions of Hunger.” The contest invites regular people to creatively express themselves through poetry, art, storytelling, or music, about the issue of hunger. The contest is open through March 1, 2010, and more information can be found at http://www.expressionsofhunger.com/. We hope you’ll check it out.

Cool! Alison, you’re under the sweet girl’s spoon handle, and Shannon, you’re 6 squares under Alison, both on left side…yes? More fun than watching The Brady Bunch. Nice job! Will continue to support Shoprite’s Partners In Caring. Ever-amazed our nation has such hungry and vulnerable people in it. Ouch.

Just made a huge pot of soup for the food pantry to drop off for SuperBowl in Montclair, New Jersey. A real cooking with friends morning. I made the soup while my husband baked the no knead bread and one hour later we’re feeling quite good. Just wanted to say thank you Alison and Shannon for all your wonderful inspiration!

That’s great, Alison. Congrats! I’ll definitely be making soup this week for the souper bowl.

About Alison J. Bermack

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
