Beating the Winter Blues

February 25, 2010 by evelyn

Just about now, those of us with a multitude of cold days and a significant amount of snow (you are the rarity in this country if you don’t relate) are looking forward to coming out of hibernation.

Here are three ways my friends and I have been beating the Winter Blues:
1. Food Swaps! Whether it’s for treats, soups, appetizers or breads, it’s a great time to be in a warm kitchen with a friend, and then get together with a larger group to hang out and exchange foods.
2. Signing up for a CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture). It’s that time, and we’re talking about whose CSA had the best tomatoes last year, which ones offer eggs or fruits, and where the most convenient drop off spots are.
3. Ordering Seeds. The beautiful seed catalogs have arrived, and we are planning our plots. What will be different this year? What will we share and what will we experiment with?

Let us know how you’re beating the winter blues these days.

I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
