Strawberry Time

June 10, 2010 by evelyn

Popsicles on the back porch, garlic scapes and radishes in the skillet and lemonade for all. School’s out this week and it feels like summer. This is my week too to pick strawberries with friends and kids. Because I like to can jam, I can’t get enough strawberries! One of my favorite jams came after much experimentation with different types of berries. It’s Three Berry Jam (which can be found in the recipe section of our site).

Here are some other Strawberry ideas that take my family through the summer: Spinach Salad with Strawberries, Pine Nuts and Gorgonzola; Sliced Strawberries over Greek Yogurt and Granola for breakfast; Strawberry and Cream Cheese sandwiches; Strawberry Yogurt and Honey Smoothies. What are your favorite ways to eat strawberries?

Shannon: The Market Basket and the Elberta farmer’s market both have Michigan strawberries.
My favorite is Strawberry Pie, but Shortcake and as ice cream topping run a close second.

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
