REVIEW — WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT MICROPLANE?

December 13, 2011 by Alison

You know me! I’m a kitchen gadget addict. I’ll never turn down an opportunity to try new products that are designed to make my life easier in the kitchen. But there are some brands that just get it right. Microplane is one of those companies. I have yet to encounter a product made by Microplane that didn’t make my life easier. And I can’t say that about every company.

(Here comes the disclaimer!) So when I received my complimentary package of products made by Microplane to review, I was excited. Plus, one of my lucky readers will get this bundle for free — just in time for the holidays! Just leave a comment below by this Friday December 16th to enter and I’ll draw a winner.

I already had the zester, which is an old standby in my kitchen for adding some zest to my savory and sweet creations. I like it better than any other zester I’ve ever used. The Cheese Plane is so cool. Adjustable so you can slice cheese in three thicknesses — thin, medium and thick. And with a ribbon blade at the bottom of the slicer, it even grates cheese too. Moving on to the cheese mill! With two different blades, with a simple twist you can easily grate cheese finely or coarsely, whichever you choose. I’ll confess I had a tricky time switching blades at first but once I did it a few times it worked just fine. The professional series Extra Course Grater is always useful to have around when you need a small amount of something shredded. From zucchini, to potatoes, cheese and even apples, this hand held tool will shred small amounts. And finally, instead of pounding your meat, how about rolling something sharp over it? With this clever tool, you can break down the fibers and tenderize your meat.

So, if you’re looking for some clever stocking stuffers for the cooks in your life, consider Microplane for dependable and unique kitchen gadgets. If you like Microplane, visit them on Facebook and let them know: www.facebook.com/Microplane.

I love the idea of a cheese plane that can do all those things because I always find grating and slicing cheese annoying. These products sound great!

I love cooking, but don’t have any of these gadgets! I always wish I could slice cheese thinner for cheese plates and this slicer seems to be the key. Also I have always wanted a meat tenderizer, but never have gotten one for some unknown reason. I always used my rolling pin, which I am quite aware, is not the correct tool for the job!! I would definitely put all these tools to use if I was the lucky winner!!

About Alison J. Bermack

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
