Save Some Pounds with Bite Sized Desserts this Thanksgiving

November 19, 2013 by Alison

At the end of our baking date yesterday, the three of us — Suzy, Jackie and me — agreed that we just wouldn’t have done it if we didn’t have each other. I mean who would be crazy enough to be in a kitchen all day on a Sunday making five different desserts? It may sound a bit clichéd over here at CWF but when you’ve got a friend or two in the kitchen with you, everything becomes that much more enjoyable. And making desserts ahead of time for Thanksgiving is no different. This year, we decided to forgo the full size apple, pecan and pumpkin pies that we usually make ahead for the holidays and bake an assortment of two bite desserts instead. You know you want to taste every dessert on the table, but it makes me sick to think of taking a full size piece of everything there! Just think of these bite-sized desserts as portion control and gain a few less pounds this holiday.

Our agenda was hefty this past Sunday. After trolling the internet for some tantalizing tastes, we decided to make a single batch of five different recipes. Each of us brought our ingredients and supplies to my not-so-big, certainly not gourmet, but well used kitchen. We literally had every inch of my table tops and countertops used and worked furiously making various types of dough and fillings for tarts — pumpkin courtesy of Land O’Lakes, Little Lemon Tarts by Butter Baking, tarts, cheese cake and chocolate! We each left with about thirty bite sized desserts to display on our Thanksgiving tables. What are you serving? Any two-bite ideas?

About Alison J. Bermack

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
