Bright Ideas: Alison Bermack and Others Cook Up Online Communities

Alison Bermack learned to cook as a teenager, chopping and sauteing alongside her father. When she had children of her own, she found herself cooking by herself and not enjoying it. One day at her toddler’s gymnastics class, she met another who loved to cook. “A light bulb went on,” she says. “I was never alone when I cooked before. Why do I need to be alone now?”

It all began when I was a child cooking with my dad, the kitchen a magnet for cooking and camaraderie, a refuge from adolescence. I spent countless hours chopping, sautéing and simmering my way through childhood. And now, with three kids of my own, I’m still chopping, but this time through their childhood and often with friends.
